S.O.G getting primed

We've been training the guys from the State Department of Corrections S.O.G group for the past few weeks. They are competing in the 2010 CT SWAT Challenge and part of their competition will include a multi mile run  with various intense challenges spaced at intervals along the way. To help them prepare for this we created a wod with various distances to run and wallballs, box jumps, tire carry's and burpees inbetween to similate nature of the run the will endure for the challenge. These guys have definitely stepped up their game and are already in much better shape then when they first showed up. a few more good wods and I have no doubt that they will do well. Nice work men!

a list of achievements

I was thinking this morning after my wod that the value of any service/object or endeavor can be measured in part by the outcome or success of whatever the "thing " is. For example the success of the Ipod can be measured by it's sales and customer reviews. The success of a sports team can be measured simply by it's win/loss record. In the gym world success can measured numerous ways as well...in part by weight lossed if that is your goal or by personal records achieved in training. So,from the top of my head and without the data in fron of me I wanted to share some of our members achievements. If you are mentioned in this blog forgive me if I'm not 100% current on your records but it should be very close. Here goes...

Scott Bounano..lost over 20 lbs, deadlifts over 400 and can outrow most of the younsters in the gym! nice work Scotty

Mike Phelps ...lost over 60 lbs..deadlifts 250 lbs and can probably outhike us all! love coaching you Mike!

Diana Mckenzie(my wife!) just started CrossFitting and has lost over 15lbs and deadlifts over 125 lbs and now runs pain free...not bad for 2 months worth of work...good job honey!

choices

So the summer is coming to an end and your thoughts are turning back to taking care of yourself again. Your looking for a gym that can help you regain your fitness and restore your body to it's rightful place. You have choices....a lot of them. Well, you know which one I would tell you to go to but why don't look at your choices and decide. Trust your eyes and that inner voice to steer you towards the truth.

Planet Fitness $10  a month.

Lots of equiment, garish colors, free pizza every Tuesday and bagels on Saturday. Plus a bunch of people you probably would park next to in the dark.

Here is one review I found:

This is the worst gym I have ever been to.  I only keep the membership to use the tanning booths.

It is clear that this gym does not care.

It is overcrowded with giggling teenagers that spit on the floor.  The equipment is gross and dangerous.  Nothing has been cleaned, ever.  There is always someone pooping in the Men's locker room, that is even filthier than the gym itself.

This place smells and will depress you.  Go to NYSC where one of the only bad things is the uncontrollable use of spray deodorant.  Why hasn't stick deodorant caught on with the Europeans.

Cardio Express Wethersfield around $29 a month
you get tons of cardio equipment with T.v's attached to them and what they say is quality training...
read 2 reviews I found:

Cardio Express is a rip off

This gym is a rip off....they lure young high school kids in and say when you go to college you can cancel but they won't cancel when you bring in your acceptance letter. Do not recommend this gym if you want honestly and professional people working.

God Bless the Fighting Men and Women of the USA

Welcome Back!

So whenever people leave for a while, and then come back, 9 times out of 10 they make the statement, "That was harder than I remember?  Case and point, this morning Lou came back to us after a month sabatacle from CrossFit.  After the warm up, he said "I think I'm going to puke".  Morale of the story, don't leave haha, or if you are going somewhere, keep up with the travel wod's that we have posted.  Scott and Steve luckily kept him in the game the whole time.  Welcome Back Lou! We missed you!ImageImage
