Crossfit and first responders
Crossfit is no secret in the first responders community. Military,Leo and Fire department personnel have been using Crossfit since it's begining. It makes sense,if your life may depend on how fit you are then you better get Crossfit. At both Crossfit USA and Crossfit Relentless we have a large contingent from this community and they have a special place in our hearts. They are willing to put themselves on the line everyday for us. Very soon we will begin our outreach to one particular segment of this community, the Fire Department. While a lot of FD personnel already do some Crossfit training there are a lot more that need to. We want to help prepare these men and women to improve the likelyhood that they will come home safe at the end of the day and also improve their chances of saving lives. One of our in house FD guys(Bryon Beckwith) is a shining example of what Crossfit and good eating can do for you. When you get a chance take a look at his before and after pics on this site. Bryon was always strong but now he is strong and fit! He also competes in regional Firefighter contests nicknamed the toughest 2 minutes in sport. He holds the state record and we will very soon be asking him to venture out to fire stations and instruct them on how to use Crossfit to improve their overall general preparedness for their daily jobs. Here is a good shot of him nailing a heavy deadlift.

Crossfit USA Teens
One of our Crossfit USA teens,Peter, has been making a lot of strides in his strength and conditioning. In the picture below he is hitting a 95 lbs push press for 3 reps at a bodyweight of 135lbs. Not to bad at all. Now he is also participating in our daily wods(scaled of course) and his football coach should be pleasantly surpised when he gets him back next week. Keep up the good work Peter!

Eric Eaton...in his own words.
![]()
I was a normal kid growing up in East Hartford CT. My brother and I did the usual sandlot sports but were never actively fit or trim. That changed for me in 11th grade when I got into running shape for track and field. I went into the Marines at 17 years old and got married at 19. My weight going into the Marines was 145 lbs; coming out, it was 135 lbs.
After the Marines I became lackadaisical, eating whatever I wanted and sometimes going to the globogym. I never found the workout that would push me to the edge, like I had in the Marines. My weight started getting higher and higher, eventually to 240 lbs!
I met Merle again online after 20 plus years (he was my older brother's buddy growing up). After many interesting conversations I finally checked out CrossFit USA in Berlin, Connecticut. It looked like a very humble gym, no fancy machines or treadmills. I signed up for the conditioning and was amazed at the intensity of the workouts, something I was hungry for yet again... a hunger I have not felt since I left the Marines.
The workouts are tough... but if your mind is willing, then your body will adapt to the rigorous regimen. Since joining I have learned many valuable life lessons, such as eating right and core conditioning.
I started at 228 lbs in August 2009, and today I am on the cusp of going below 200 lbs for the first time in years! The coaches that have worked with me have demonstrated patience yet also direction and firmness. They do not let anyone quit, or allow anyone to think they cannot do something. CrossFit is something that is truly transformational, and something I encourage others to join

Team wod
This past Saturday Crossfit Relentless held it's first team wod and we had over 25 particpants from both Crossfit Relentless and Crossfit USA show up. It was a great mix of veterans, relative noobies and several people who have never done a Crossfit workout before(boy were they in for a shock!). We love to do these team wods because it givesus a chance to employ our fitness in a fun ,friendly and competitive setting. It also highlights another key element of what makes a Crossfit box so special...the community. Many of the participants had never met each other yet everyone cheered and supported each other like they were lifelong friends. It really is something to behold and also to try. Be assured we will do many more and now that we have a box big enough to do indoors wods we will do them all winter long! Some pics of the day are posted below, thanks again to everyone who came out !
